I am finally home and while I had a great trip, it is pretty nice to be back. Surprisingly. I was up early this morning (Saturday), back in the routine of my morning coffee/walk and a swim in the ocean. The water is much warmer up here in Queensland compared to where I was, nearly 1,000km’s south of here.
On Thursday morning I mentioned that I was driving up from Brissy on the last 100kms of my trip and I was going to drop in for a swim at one of Brisbane’s inner city pools. My speedo selection was made public as well, I’d be wearing my new Tom Daley ADIDAS speedos and said if anyone saw me, to say hi. That is what happened.
I arrived at the pool around 10:30am, there were 3 or 4 lanes free and a 50/50 mix of guys in speedos or jammers (bike shorts). I jumped in and felt fantastic with my swimming. Banged out 2,000m, which took me about 50 minutes. I’m more of a plodder than a sprinter. My usual routine is to swim as far as I can, then do some shorter drills with breaststroke and some kicking, then come back for a final 500m of freestyle. I felt so great I knew I had another 500m in me but needed a little break to get the blood back in my arms.
And, it would give me a chance to work on my speedo tan, front side.
A quick 15 minute break and I’d knock off that last 500m, so I jumped out of the pool and found a quiet spot in the stands to lie down on my back and checked some stuff on my phone. There were two other speedo guys doing the same as me, and two chicks as well. It is a big place so everyone had lots of room to spread out.
My speedo was just about dry and I was thinking I should get back in the pool, smash out the last 500m then hit the road. I heard my name.
“Dave, is that you?”
BINGO!!!
The rest of this experience is going to be shared with members only, c’mon, I have to be a little bit discrete. I can say that we didn’t fool around in the changing rooms at the pool, we went back to his inner city apartment.
